Johann Sebastian Bach composed two versions for organ of the chorale melody ‘Alle Menschen müssen sterben’. The first, BWV 643 in G -Dur, was written in Weimar presumably in 1714 and is a part of the Orgel-Büchlein (No.45). The second, BWV 1117 in B-Dur, was discovered at Yale University in the 1980’s between a compilation of 82 choral preludes which contained 31 previously unknown choral settings by Bach. In this edition, I have added a version of the BWV 643 in B-Dur to match the choral melody of the BWV 1117.
