Eugène Gigout - Dix Pièces Pour Orgue

IV. Toccata, arr. Bart Van Beneden

Eugène Gigout (1844-1925), pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns, wrote almost exclusively for his instrument, the organ. The Dix Pièces Pour Orgues (Ten Pieces for Organ), composed in 1890, contains the Toccata in B minor, his most famous work and often performed at organ recitals.

This arrangement by Bart Van Beneden for saxophone quartet is set in Bb minor to better accomodate the technical demands of the instrument and which, incidentally, corresponds to an organ tuned in a'=415hz.

Recording by Arco Music in November 2017 @Sint-Jozefkerk in Sint-Katharina-Lombeek, Belgium.
